Living in Cambodia

Cambodia lies in Southeast Asia between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, and borders the Gulf of Thailand to the south. Around 16.2 million people live there. The Mekong, Tonle Sap Lake and extensive plains shape the country; forested mountains lie in the west and southwest. The tropical climate brings pronounced rainy and dry seasons, while the coast is humid and the higher elevations somewhat cooler. In Phnom Penh, many people live in densely built-up neighbourhoods and use motorbikes, tuk-tuks or buses. In rural areas, rice fields, fishing and small shops shape daily life; some houses stand on stilts. Work, housing and leisure differ considerably between the capital, provincial towns, villages and coastal regions.
