Health in Sierra Leone

Health care in Sierra Leone combines community services, public facilities, private and faith-based providers, and NGO-supported programs. Community Health Workers and Peripheral Health Units handle much first contact, while district and referral hospitals provide more complex care. Free public access is concentrated on pregnant women, lactating mothers, children under five, and specified diseases; other patients may pay for registration, consultations or medicines.
