Labor market in Suriname

Suriname’s labor market connects people seeking work with companies, public institutions and other employers. Services account for about 68% of employment, industry 25% and agriculture 7% in ILO estimates, while government, trade, mining, construction, finance, tourism, ICT and utilities are major formal sectors. The minimum hourly wage is SRD 61.25 gross from 1 July 2026, but pay varies sharply by sector, occupation and employer. Jobs, training and matching services are concentrated along the coast, while offshore oil development may increase demand for specific skills from 2028.
