Crime in Armenia

Crime in Armenia is handled through the police, investigative bodies, prosecutors, and courts. Different authorities may become involved depending on whether an incident needs an immediate response, a formal investigation, or a court decision. Everyday property crime can include theft of phones, wallets, bags, bicycles, vehicle contents, or household property. Crowded places, transport areas, nightlife settings, and unattended belongings can create opportunities, but risk differs between locations. Fraud may involve false sales, rentals, jobs, investments, requests for money, or people pretending to represent an institution. Pressure to act quickly, secrecy, unusual payment methods, and requests for passwords or codes are common warning signs. Cybercrime can affect residents and visitors through account theft, malicious links, fake websites, payment scams, identity misuse, or device intrusion. Strong unique passwords, account verification, software updates, and careful handling of messages reduce exposure. Violent crime, harassment, domestic abuse, and sexual violence require serious attention even when they happen in private or involve someone known to the victim. Responsibility always belongs to the offender, not to the person harmed. Road incidents can involve criminal, administrative, insurance, and medical questions at the same time. People should first protect life, avoid further danger, and document the scene when it is safe. Reporting usually begins by contacting the police or visiting the appropriate police unit. A clear account should describe what happened, where and when it happened, who was involved, and what evidence or witnesses exist. Useful evidence may include photographs, messages, receipts, account records, medical documents, serial numbers, and witness contact details. Evidence should be preserved in its original form whenever possible rather than edited or publicly shared. Language, fear, shame, or uncertainty can make reporting difficult. A trusted person, interpreter, lawyer, medical professional, consular service, or support organisation may help a victim understand the next steps.
