Taxes in Armenia

Armenia has national taxes and locally relevant obligations. The State Revenue Committee, often called the SRC, administers major taxes, while municipalities have roles in certain property-related and local payments. Tax residence helps determine how a person's income is treated. Citizenship, immigration residence, and tax residence are separate ideas, and cross-border workers may need to consider more than one country. Employment income is normally handled partly through the employer's payroll process. The employer may calculate and transfer required amounts, but the individual should still check records and identify income that was not processed through payroll. Individuals can also receive income from self-employment, business activity, rent, investments, property sales, foreign sources, or contracts. Different income types may require different records, calculations, or reporting. Businesses can operate through forms such as an individual entrepreneur or a legal entity. Registration form, activity, size, customers, employees, and applicable tax regime affect accounting and payment duties. Important tax categories include personal income tax, profit tax for companies, value-added tax known as VAT, excise taxes on selected goods, and property-related taxes. Not every person or business pays every category. VAT is generally a tax connected with supplies of goods and services. Registration status, the nature of the transaction, and supporting invoices influence whether VAT is charged, credited, or reported. Good tax records include contracts, invoices, receipts, payroll documents, bank statements, customs papers, and evidence of deductible business costs. Records should connect each payment to a real person, activity, and transaction. Cross-border income, remote work, digital services, imports, exports, and ownership through foreign entities can create additional questions. A qualified Armenian tax professional should review these situations before filings or contracts are finalized.
