Pets are called ev heyvanları in Azerbaijani, and veterinary care is linked to the term baytarlıq. Ownership combines feeding, exercise, hygiene, medical care, identification, and control in shared spaces. Veterinary clinics are most readily available in Bakı and other larger cities. Regional access may be limited, so owners should identify both routine care and an emergency option before a problem occurs. Vaccination, parasite control, sterilization, dental care, and regular examinations form the basis of preventive care. A veterinarian should adapt the plan to the animal's species, age, health, lifestyle, and travel needs. Identification can include a collar tag, microchip, photograph, and written record. These measures improve the chance of recovery if an animal escapes or becomes separated from its owner. Housing rules and landlord attitudes can affect whether a pet is accepted. Noise, damage, lifts, shared entrances, outdoor access, and responsibility for cleaning should be discussed before signing a rental agreement. Public spaces contain traffic, heat, unfamiliar animals, food waste, and other hazards. Dogs need reliable control, while cats and small animals need secure carriers for transport. Importing or exporting a pet requires official animal-health and transport documents. The destination, carrier, route, and timing may each impose different conditions, so planning should begin well before travel. Stray dogs and cats are visible in some parts of Azerbaijan. Contact should be cautious because an unknown animal may be frightened, territorial, injured, or unvaccinated.
Pets in Azerbaijan
Keeping pets in Azerbaijan involves daily care, suitable housing, veterinary support, and respect for neighbors and public spaces. Dogs and cats are the most familiar companion animals, although services are easier to find in Bakı than in many smaller communities. Travel and housing decisions should include the animal from the beginning.
