Religion in Bhutan

Buddhism shapes religious life in Bhutan, particularly through Vajrayana Buddhism (Vajrayana-Buddhismus) and the Drukpa Kagyu tradition (Drukpa-Kagyü-Tradition). Hindu communities are especially widespread in the south; other religious organizations are registered with the Chhoedey Lhentshog. Religious freedom is constitutionally protected, while religious institutions must remain politically neutral. Prayers, blessings, and many festivals follow the Bhutanese lunar calendar.
