Apprenticeship in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Vocational education in Bosnia and Herzegovina is part of a decentralized education system. Rules and programs can differ between the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, Brčko District, and individual cantons. The closest local equivalent to an apprenticeship is education in a vocational secondary school, often called a srednja stručna škola. Programs prepare students for occupations in crafts, services, industry, transport, health-related work, and other fields. Some programs focus on skilled trades and are commonly connected with the word zanat, meaning a craft or trade. Other vocational programs provide broader technical education and can also support later study. Students learn general subjects, vocational theory, and practical skills.
