Study in Brazil

Higher education in Brazil is known as ensino superior. It includes undergraduate programs, postgraduate education, research, and professionally focused study. Undergraduate education is called graduação. The main degree types are bacharelado, licenciatura, and curso superior de tecnologia, whose graduates are often described as tecnólogos. A bacharelado provides broad preparation in an academic or professional field. A licenciatura is especially connected with preparing teachers for school subjects, while a technology degree is a focused higher-education qualification rather than an ordinary short course. Higher education institutions include universities, university centers, faculties, and federal institutes. They may be public or private and may offer in-person, online, or blended teaching according to the program. Admission can use national examination results, institution-specific selection, school records, transfer routes, or other permitted processes. ENEM is a widely recognized term in Brazilian admissions, but each applicant must check how a chosen institution uses it. Public institutions are an important part of Brazilian higher education and are often highly competitive. Private institutions may charge tuition, while scholarships, financing arrangements, and institution-specific support may exist for eligible students. Postgraduate education is called pós-graduação. It includes professionally oriented specialization programs and academically oriented master's and doctoral programs, which have different purposes and admission expectations. Institutional and program recognition matter. A persuasive advertisement or course certificate does not by itself prove that a program is a recognized higher-education degree. Some professions also require steps beyond graduation, such as registration with a professional body or fulfillment of occupational requirements. Students should investigate the profession as well as the degree before investing substantial time and money.
