Brazil’s great distances shape transport between regions. Domestic flights and long-distance coaches are important, while rail is not a general nationwide passenger network. City buses, called ônibus, form the main public transport system in many municipalities. Routes, stops, fares, accessibility, and payment arrangements are locally organized. Some large urban areas have metrô, suburban trem, or other rapid transport. These systems usually cover only part of the wider city, so a journey may require transfers. Long-distance coaches normally use a rodoviária, or bus terminal. Travelers should distinguish it from an ordinary city bus stop and confirm the exact terminal. Taxis and app-based rides are widely used in many cities. Passengers should check the vehicle, driver, destination, pickup point, and displayed trip information before entering. Motorcycles and mototáxi services can be practical but expose passengers to greater physical risk. Availability, local regulation, equipment, and service practices vary. Walking and cycling conditions differ greatly between neighborhoods. Pavement quality, crossings, lighting, hills, weather, and traffic behavior all affect route suitability. Driving requires valid authorization, knowledge of local signs, and careful attention to motorcycles, pedestrians, speed controls, and parking rules. Congestion and road conditions can make map estimates unreliable. Night travel, isolated stops, large terminals, and visible valuables may require extra caution. A planned route and backup option are useful when a service is delayed or unavailable.
