School in Bulgaria

School in Bulgaria is called „училище“. The system includes preschool education, primary education, lower-secondary education, and upper-secondary education. Preschool education is „предучилищно образование“. It helps children develop language, social habits, movement, and readiness for organized school learning. Primary education is „начално образование“, and the broader basic stage is associated with „основно образование“. Children learn Bulgarian language and literature, mathematics, society, nature, arts, physical education, and other foundational subjects. Secondary education is „средно образование“. Learners may attend general schools, schools with specialized profiles, or vocational schools that combine general subjects with occupational preparation. Admission and movement between stages can involve school records, results, applications, and placement procedures. Important transitions may require families to compare programs and submit documents to the appropriate school. Teachers assess learners through classroom participation, written and oral work, projects, tests, and formal examinations. The Bulgarian term „матура“ commonly refers to a state matriculation examination at the end of secondary education. Bulgarian is normally the main language of instruction in public schools. Children who are still learning Bulgarian may need extra language support while also adapting to new subjects and school routines. Schools can provide knowledge, friendships, structure, and routes into vocational or higher education. Differences in location, school focus, resources, and individual support mean that families should examine the actual school rather than relying only on its type.
