Costs in Chad

Living costs in Chad vary sharply by household size, location, season, access to services and exposure to conflict, flooding or displacement. Food is usually the largest essential expense, followed by housing, transport, health, education, utilities and communication, but no reliable current national household budget exists. The Central African CFA franc, written as XAF or CFAF, is the currency used for local planning. The 2022 national poverty line was 284,109 CFAF per person per year, about 23,676 CFAF per month; it is a poverty benchmark, not a complete household budget.
