Urban housing often consists of apartments inside a xiaoqu, or residential compound. A compound may have gates, security staff, shared gardens, parcel areas, parking, shops, and a property-management office. Rental homes may be offered directly by owners or through agents. The person offering the property should be able to show a credible right to rent it out. A written contract should identify the parties, property, rent, deposit, payment schedule, lease period, included items, repair duties, and conditions for ending the agreement. Any promise that matters should appear in writing. Apartments may be furnished, partly furnished, or empty. Heating, cooling, insulation, kitchen equipment, storage, and bathroom design vary greatly by region and building age. Utilities may include electricity, water, gas, internet, heating, and property-management charges. Payment methods and responsibility should be explained before the contract is signed. Landlords and accommodation providers may need to support residence registration or provide housing documents. A renter should confirm this cooperation before making a commitment. Move-in inspection protects both sides. Photographs and a signed inventory can record furniture, meter readings, keys, appliance condition, stains, and existing damage. Daily life also depends on the compound's practical rules. Delivery access, waste sorting, bicycles, pets, visitors, renovations, and quiet hours may be handled locally.
