For many specialist examinations in the public system, patients first receive a referral called an uputnica. Waiting and scheduling depend on the service, urgency, and location. A ljekarna is a pharmacy. Pharmacists provide medicines and practical advice, but some medicines require a prescription called a recept. Emergency care is for serious or immediate threats to health. Less urgent symptoms should normally begin with a primary doctor, an available clinic, or a pharmacist, depending on the problem. Public coverage does not necessarily remove every patient cost. Supplementary or private arrangements may cover different services, so confirm what your own policy actually includes. Language support is not guaranteed everywhere. Bring a trusted interpreter when informed consent or complex medical history cannot be communicated safely.
