Life stages in Dominica

Dominica has no single government service covering all life stages. Support is divided among education, child protection, youth development, social assistance, Dominica Social Security and disaster management, with formal services combined with family, community and charitable help. Children are protected until age 18, compulsory schooling runs from ages 5 to 16, and full legal adulthood begins at 18. Later-life support includes pensions, the Yes We Care Programme and community or residential care, while disaster plans address hazards such as hurricanes, floods and landslides.
