Living together in North Korea

Everyday coexistence in North Korea is organized through state institutions, workplace and social organizations, and local neighborhood units rather than independent civic groups. The inminban links roughly 20 to 40 households to local leaders and security structures, while movement, communication, association and private life remain heavily monitored. Formal complaint channels exist, but independent mediation and collective civic action are not reliably available.
