Crime in Egypt

Crime in Egypt is addressed by the police, prosecutors, courts, and specialized authorities for certain types of offenses. Tourist Police may be relevant to visitors in major tourism areas, while ordinary police services handle the wider range of criminal incidents. Opportunistic theft can occur where people are crowded or distracted. Phones, wallets, bags, and unattended property are easier targets, so secure storage and awareness are basic protections. Fraud may involve prices, unofficial services, false stories, payment demands, property arrangements, or online messages. A clear price, written terms, verified identity, and a pause before payment help reveal many problems. Harassment can happen in streets, transport, workplaces, homes, or online. The person targeted is not responsible for the offender's behavior, and seeking a safer place, trusted support, or official help is a reasonable response. Cybercrime can include account theft, impersonation, threatening messages, fraudulent sales, and requests for passwords or verification codes. Strong unique passwords, added account security, and careful checking of requests reduce risk. When a crime occurs, personal safety comes before recovering property or confronting a suspect. Moving to a staffed public place and contacting police, security staff, a hotel, an employer, or a trusted local person may be safer than acting alone. Evidence can help an official report. Useful material may include dates, locations, descriptions, receipts, screenshots, account details, photographs, witness contacts, and a list of missing items. A police report creates an official record, but procedures and outcomes depend on the facts and location. A trusted Arabic speaker or appropriate professional support can make communication clearer when language or unfamiliar procedures create difficulty.
