Labor law in Egypt

Egyptian labor law regulates much private-sector employment, while public service and certain kinds of work may follow different frameworks. The worker's actual duties and relationship with the employer can matter alongside the label used in a contract. An employment contract should identify the parties, work, workplace, pay, and other main conditions. A written Arabic version or reliable Arabic documentation makes the relationship easier to prove before local authorities. Workers have protections concerning wages, rest, leave, safety, dignity, and fair treatment. The precise entitlement depends on the employment arrangement and the rules applicable to that workplace. Employers commonly keep personnel, attendance, wage, and disciplinary records. Workers should also preserve their own contract, pay evidence, schedules, instructions, evaluations, and written complaints. Social insurance is separate from simply receiving a salary. Proper registration can affect access to insurance-based benefits and the official record of employment. Discipline and termination should follow lawful grounds and procedures. A dismissal, resignation, fixed-term expiry, redundancy, and negotiated separation are different events with different possible consequences. Workplace disagreements may first be raised internally or through the competent labor office, commonly called Maktab al-Amal. Unresolved disputes can proceed through the labor dispute and court system according to the applicable procedure. Informal work creates practical risks because pay, service length, duties, and termination reasons may be hard to prove. Messages, transfers, access records, witness information, and work products can help show the real relationship. Labor law gives important minimum protections, but it does not guarantee that every workplace conflict will end quickly. Early, calm documentation usually improves the chance of a practical solution.
