Labor market in El Salvador

El Salvador's labor market combines formal wage employment with self-employment, public-sector work, domestic work and informal activity. In the 2024 census, 52.5% of the population was in the economically active population, and 95.5% of that group was employed; participation was 66.4% for men and 40.4% for women. Demand is strongest in commerce, services, manufacturing, tourism, logistics, customer service, sales and digital work, while access, pay and social protection differ sharply by sector and region.
