The BBiG is the Vocational Training Act (Berufsbildungsgesetz), and the HwO is the Crafts Code (Handwerksordnung). In this area, pay must be appropriate and must increase each year. For training contracts starting in 2026, the monthly minimum is €724 in the first year, €854 in the second, €977 in the third and €1,014 in the fourth year of training. For contracts starting in 2025, the amounts are €682, €805, €921 and €955. The amounts are adjusted annually and depend on the year in which the contract starts. Collective agreements may set different amounts and are decisive within the statutory framework. Actual pay varies considerably by occupation, industry, region and employer. BIBB figures refer to the contractual monthly pay when the contract is concluded; therefore, compare figures from the same survey year and check whether they are stated as gross amounts. For part-time vocational training, pay is reduced in proportion to working time. The training company must provide required training materials free of charge; the extent to which benefits in kind can be counted towards pay is limited. Training pay is not the same as the net amount deposited in your account. Social security contributions and, where applicable, income tax may be deducted from gross pay. The employer must pay for overtime or compensate it with time off. Pay is due monthly, no later than the last working day of each month.
