Pets in Iceland

Keeping a pet in Iceland involves long-term care, species-appropriate living conditions, identification, veterinary treatment and local rules. Dogs, cats and rabbits must be microchipped and registered from 12 weeks of age, while dog keeping is generally subject to municipal rules. The keeper pays the ongoing costs and remains responsible for the animal's welfare, including during travel, illness, loss or rehoming.
