Continuing education allows adults and working-age learners to gain new knowledge after or alongside their earlier schooling. It may support a job, career change, business, community role, personal interest, or return to formal education. Pelatihan means training, while kursus commonly means a course. Pengembangan kompetensi refers to developing abilities, and peningkatan keterampilan describes improving skills. Providers can include employers, training centers, community organizations, educational institutions, professional bodies, and private course providers. Balai Latihan Kerja or BLK and community learning centers known as PKBM may be relevant local options. Programs range from brief workshops to longer structured courses. Delivery can be face to face, online, at the workplace, or blended, and learning may include explanation, demonstration, projects, supervised practice, and assessment. Some learners need a recognized certificate, while others mainly need a skill and evidence that they can use it. A certificate of attendance is not the same as proof of occupational competence. Good upskilling starts with a real gap between current ability and the required task. The course should state its level, learning outcomes, practice opportunities, instructor support, assessment, and completion evidence. Upskilling can improve confidence, productivity, employability, entrepreneurship, and access to new responsibilities. It works best when learners can apply the skill soon after training. Common limits include weak course quality, misleading promises, lack of practice, equipment costs, schedule conflicts, and skills that do not match local opportunities. Digital courses also require suitable devices, connectivity, and self-discipline.
