Disasters in Ireland

A disaster is a serious event that harms people, property, infrastructure, or the environment and overwhelms ordinary arrangements. The lead organisation depends on the type and location of the incident. Authorities may close roads, evacuate an area, establish rest centres, protect water supplies, or ask people to remain indoors. Public instructions can change as responders learn more about the event. Household preparedness supports the official response. A communication plan, essential medicines, drinking water, simple food, lighting, warm clothing, and battery power help people manage short disruptions. No plan can predict every disaster. The safest approach is to recognise local hazards, follow trusted public instructions, help vulnerable people without entering danger, and review arrangements after conditions change.
