Shopping in Ireland

Food and household goods are sold through supermarkets, convenience shops, independent retailers, markets, and specialist stores. Larger places usually offer more choice, while local shops may be closer and useful for small purchases. Prices are generally displayed in euro and normally include the consumer taxes that apply to the sale. Unit prices can help compare packages of different sizes. Card and contactless payments are widespread, but payment options can vary. A small backup payment method is useful when a terminal, telephone, or internet connection fails. A receipt records what was bought, when it was bought, and how much was paid. Keep it for valuable goods, guarantees, returns, or any purchase that may need to be checked later. Return rights depend on why an item is returned and how it was bought. A faulty product is different from an unwanted product, and a shop's goodwill policy is different from a legal remedy. Online shopping offers a wider choice but adds delivery, address, security, and return questions. Check the seller, full cost, delivery arrangements, and return process before paying. Charity shops, second-hand platforms, and local reuse groups can reduce costs and waste. Used electrical goods, safety equipment, and children's items require especially careful inspection. Shopping habits often depend on transport and storage. Planning meals and carrying reusable bags can reduce unnecessary journeys, cost, and food waste.
