Rent is called affitto, and a rental agreement is a contratto di locazione. The written contract should identify the parties, property, payment, duration, included items, and important conditions. The stated rent may not represent the entire housing cost. Condominium charges, utilities, heating, internet, waste-related costs, and other agreed expenses may be separate. A condominio is a building or property arrangement with individually used units and shared parts. Its rules may cover noise, cleaning, waste, courtyards, lifts, and other common spaces. Utilities are called utenze and can include electricity, gas, water, and telecommunications. The contract should make clear which services are included and who must arrange or transfer them. A security deposit is called a deposito cauzionale. Written proof of payment and a detailed condition record help prevent disputes when the tenancy ends. Residenza is official residence registration and is different from a rental contract alone. A valid housing arrangement may provide evidence for administrative procedures, but each procedure has its own requirements. Before moving in, occupants should inspect locks, water, electricity, heating, appliances, windows, damp, and visible damage. Photographs and a signed inventory create a reliable starting record. Repairs and responsibilities depend on the problem and agreement. Reporting defects promptly in writing is safer than waiting or making major changes without permission.
