Elections in Japan

Elections in Japan allow eligible citizens to choose members of the National Diet and elected local leaders and assemblies. Different contests use constituencies, proportional representation, or both, so voters may receive more than one ballot. Elections determine representation, but the Prime Minister is designated by the Diet rather than elected directly by the public.
