Employment in Kazakhstan

Employment in Kazakhstan is the formal relationship in which a person performs work under an employer’s direction in return for pay. The main local term for an employment contract is еңбек шарты in Kazakh and трудовой договор in Russian. An employment contract normally identifies the parties, position, workplace, starting conditions, pay, working schedule, and responsibilities. A worker should receive and keep a readable copy. Employment may be ongoing or arranged for a defined period or task. Some contracts include a probation period so that the employer and employee can test whether the position is suitable. The employer organizes the work, provides agreed conditions, keeps employment records, and pays wages through payroll. The employee performs the agreed duties, follows lawful workplace instructions, and observes safety and internal rules. Working time is commonly organized through a regular week, shifts, or another recorded schedule. Rest periods, weekly rest, annual leave, and legally protected absences form part of the employment system. Formal pay is more than the amount received by the worker. Payroll can also involve tax withholding and contributions connected with pensions, social protection, and health coverage. The employment relationship may end through resignation, agreement, expiry of a fixed term, redundancy, or another recognized ground. The process should be documented, and final pay and employment records should be checked. Informal work may appear simple, but it can make wages, leave, insurance, and work history harder to prove. A written contract and traceable payments give both sides stronger evidence if a disagreement occurs.
