School in Kazakhstan

School education in Kazakhstan is organized in stages. Children move from primary education to basic secondary education and then to an upper secondary or vocational pathway. General schools teach a national curriculum that includes languages, mathematics, science, society, arts, physical education, and other subjects. The curriculum becomes more specialized as learners progress. Public schools are the usual option and are managed within the state education system. Private schools exist as alternatives, while specialized schools may focus on areas such as mathematics, science, languages, arts, or sport. Kazakh and Russian are important languages of instruction. A school's teaching language affects classroom materials, communication, and the child's daily learning, while other languages may be studied as subjects. The school year is divided into teaching periods and holidays. Daily routines generally include scheduled lessons, homework, classroom assessment, and communication between teachers and families. Learners are assessed through classwork, tests, projects, and examinations. Important transitions may involve formal assessment and the issue of an education certificate. After basic secondary education, a learner may continue general schooling or enter technical and vocational education. After completing the appropriate secondary qualification, the learner can seek employment, vocational advancement, or admission to higher education. School experiences can differ between urban and rural areas and among ordinary, specialized, and private institutions. Families should examine teaching quality, language support, travel distance, inclusion, facilities, and the child's well-being.
