Food in Kiribati

Food in Kiribati comes from fishing, local crops, livestock, household production, imports and food purchased outside the home. Fish and seafood are central, while rice, flour, sugar, noodles, bread, canned meat and frozen chicken supply much of the imported food. Access, prices and choice differ sharply between South Tarawa, Kiritimati and the outer islands because transport between islands is limited and costly.
