Politics in Kosovo

Politics in Kosovo links the constitutional organization of the state with elections that choose representatives at national and municipal level. The Constitution adopted on 9 April 2008 establishes Kosovo as an independent, sovereign, democratic and unified republic, with public power distributed among the President, Assembly, Government, courts and municipalities. Elections shape the Assembly and municipal authorities directly, while the Assembly elects the President and can enable the formation of a new government.

Elections

Elections in Kosovo determine the members of the Assembly, municipal assemblies and mayors through direct voting. The Central Election Commission, known as KQZ, organizes and verifies the electoral process. The President is elected indirectly by the Assembly, while parliamentary elections can lead to the formation of a new government.
