Language in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz is the state language of Kyrgyzstan, while Russian has official-language status. The Constitution protects conditions for ethnic communities to preserve, learn and develop their mother tongues, but this does not give every minority language equal administrative status. Kyrgyz dominates national administration and integration, Russian remains widely functional, and Uzbek is especially relevant in southern regions. Schools, public bodies, courts, media and cultural institutions apply these language rules in different ways.
