Disasters in Laos

Disasters in Laos include floods and flash floods, tropical storms and cyclones, landslides, drought, heatwaves and earthquakes, as well as epidemics, structural fires and dam, chemical or industrial incidents. Flooding has the highest practical relevance, especially along the Mekong and its tributaries and in low-lying central and southern areas. Laos has a national disaster-management framework, but implementation, warning coverage and response capacity remain uneven.
