Apprenticeship in Lebanon

Lebanon does not have one uniform apprenticeship pathway that works exactly like the dual systems found in some other countries. The closest local equivalent is vocational and technical education, often called التعليم المهني والتقني in Arabic or TVET in English. Training is offered through public and private vocational schools, technical institutes, specialized training centers, and sometimes directly through employers. Some programs are mainly school-based, while others include workshops, internships, supervised practice, or workplace learning. Learners may enter vocational education at different stages of secondary education. Common local qualifications include the Brevet Technique and the Baccalauréat Technique, followed by higher technical qualifications in suitable fields. Fields often include mechanics, electricity, construction, hospitality, nursing-related support, information technology, design, accounting, beauty services, and other practical occupations. The available choices and facilities vary between institutions and regions. A typical route begins with choosing an occupation, checking entry requirements, and enrolling in a recognized program. Learners then study general and technical subjects, practise specific skills, complete assessments, and may undertake workplace experience. Employer-based arrangements can be less standardized than formal school programs. A workplace may provide valuable hands-on learning, but duties, supervision, payment, insurance, and certification should be clarified before starting. Vocational training can provide a quicker and more practical route into work than an academic program. It can also support self-employment, later specialization, or progression into higher technical education when the qualification permits it. The main limits are uneven training quality, differences in equipment, weak employer links in some programs, and uncertain recognition of informal experience. A learner should therefore judge a program by its official status, teaching quality, practical hours, graduate outcomes, and usable qualification.
