Surroundings in Lesotho

The directly experienced environment in Lesotho includes residential infrastructure, streets and drainage, water and sanitation, waste collection, air and noise conditions, green areas, wetlands, safety and changes caused by urban growth or climate stress. Protected biodiversity, housing contracts and transport services belong to adjacent subject areas, but their environmental effects can still matter here. Urban water and sewerage are provided mainly through WASCO, the Water and Sewerage Company, which is the single licensed urban provider. LEWA, the Lesotho Electricity and Water Authority, regulates the service. A customer normally raises a service complaint with WASCO first; an unresolved complaint can then go to LEWA, whose district committees operate in all ten districts.
