Surroundings in Liberia

Land use, building permits, drainage, waste collection, water supply and environmental protection shape everyday surroundings in Liberia. The Liberia Land Authority supports local development planning, zoning and zoning permits. The Ministry of Public Works handles building plans, construction permits, building requirements, fire-safety checks and structural compliance. Construction should not begin without approved plans and the required permit. Costs and processing times depend on the project and location. Infrastructure affects access to homes, schools, services and public spaces. The Ministry of Public Works Infrastructure Strategic Plan for 2025–2029 covers about 4,000 kilometres of road construction or rehabilitation, including 500 kilometres of new primary roads with drainage, 124 kilometres of urban-road rehabilitation and maintenance of more than 2,000 kilometres of unpaved roads.
