Adults in Liechtenstein can improve professional or general skills through short courses, seminars, computer and health courses, business and social education, language-related learning, leisure education, longer qualification programmes and workplace learning. Courses may take place in person or online and range from individual sessions to several-month programmes. Accredited providers include Stein Egerta, Haus Gutenberg, Gemeinschaftszentrum Resch, kurse.li, LANV, Senioren-Kolleg and infra, among others. Course fees depend on the provider, format and duration; current catalogue examples range from about CHF 40 to CHF 555 or more. The Stiftung Erwachsenenbildung Liechtenstein is a public-law foundation created under the 1999 foundation legislation. Together with the 1979 Act on the Promotion of Adult Education, it forms the main public framework for adult education outside school and vocational education. The foundation coordinates and plans provision, funds accredited providers, supports quality and access, and may offer its own courses when no suitable provider exists. The Amt für Berufsbildung und Berufsberatung (ABB), within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport, provides vocational, study and career advice, including the Bildungs- und Informationszentrum (BIZ). The application must be submitted before the course begins. The course must start in 2026, the participant must attend at least 80 percent and complete the final survey. Vocational secondary school, the University of Liechtenstein and other excluded education offers are not covered. Education grants may support a recognised continuing-education programme lasting at least 15 days, 90 hours or 120 lessons, or a language stay lasting at least one month. Recognition in Liechtenstein and residence requirements normally apply: the person usually needs three uninterrupted years or five cumulative years of ordinary residence. The former age limit of 32 was removed on 1 January 2025. Applications are submitted electronically with eID, third-party benefits must be disclosed and supporting documents must be provided on time. Improperly received funding can be reclaimed. Public employees follow Articles 82 to 84 of the StPV. An internal annual programme determines eligible learning, paid release covers the actual absence and the daily release limit is 8 hours 24 minutes. The State may cover up to 100 percent of costs in specified cases. In the private sector, certain employment contracts or collective agreements provide up to five working days per year for education; this release is generally unpaid. Course attendance may need to be proven, and employer-paid costs or wages require prior approval or an agreement. Completing a course does not automatically create a right to work in the new occupation. Liechtenstein's small size makes cross-border use of recognised programmes in Switzerland, Austria and Germany relevant. Compare recognition, travel, schedule, total cost and funding eligibility before enrolling. Language learning, classic vocational training and university or other tertiary study are separate subject areas; they belong here only when the question concerns a transition or a direct upskilling consequence.
