Everyday shops include supermarkets, neighbourhood stores, specialist retailers, markets, and large prekybos centrai, or shopping centres. A shop is called a parduotuvė, and a market is a turgus. Food shops normally sell groceries, household goods, and basic personal-care items. Larger stores generally offer more choice, while small local shops may be useful for quick purchases. Lithuania uses the euro. Shelf prices normally include consumer taxes, but compare the displayed price with the unit price and check whether a discount requires a loyalty card. Card and contactless payments are common, especially in towns and cities. Some small market sellers or rural businesses may prefer cash, so keeping a modest alternative payment method is practical. At the kasa, or checkout, shoppers may need to weigh certain produce, choose whether they need a bag, and keep the receipt. Self-service checkouts are also common in larger stores. Many eligible drink containers carry a deposit and can be returned through a taromatas, or reverse-vending machine. The machine issues proof of the returned value, which is normally used in the participating shop. Consumer rights differ between faulty products and unwanted goods. Store purchases, online purchases, food, hygiene goods, and custom-made items may follow different return rules, so never assume every product can be returned. Opening patterns vary by location, shop type, and holiday. Check the individual store when timing matters, and do not rely on one general schedule for all of Lithuania.
