Life stages in Malta

Life stages in Malta are shaped by age, legal capacity, education, work, family changes, ageing and care needs rather than by one single public system. Children receive protection and must attend school from age 5 to 16; adulthood begins at 18, while work and social insurance can start at 16 under special rules. Support is distributed among the Public Registry, the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, the Foundation for Social Welfare Services, the Department of Social Security and Active Ageing and Community Care.
