Language in Mongolia

Mongolian is Mongolia’s state and official language and the main language of public administration, education, courts, broadcasting and legal records. Modern literary Mongolian provides the standard, while everyday speech is dominated by Khalkh within a wider Mongolian dialect continuum. Cyrillic is used alongside the traditional Mongolian script in state and local administrative writing from 1 January 2025. Kazakh, Tuvan and other minority languages have constitutional and educational protections, but no general nationwide co-official administrative status.
