Employment means doing work for an employer in return for pay. In Morocco, jobs range from highly structured positions in government and large companies to small-business, agricultural, domestic, and informal work. A permanent employment contract is commonly called a contrat à durée indéterminée, or CDI. A fixed-term contract is called a contrat à durée déterminée, or CDD, and is intended for work with a limited duration or another recognized temporary purpose. A contract should identify the employee, employer, job, workplace, pay, working schedule, and starting date. Written terms make it easier to prove what both sides agreed, even where an employment relationship may also exist without a detailed written document. Employees normally work under the employer's direction. The employer organizes the work, provides instructions, pays the agreed wage, and must respect basic workplace duties concerning safety, dignity, rest, and lawful treatment. Formal employees are generally declared to the Caisse Nationale de Sécurité Sociale, known as CNSS, when the relevant social-security system applies. Registration connects employment records and contributions with forms of social protection. Pay may include a basic wage and clearly defined additions, such as bonuses, allowances, or commissions. Workers should understand whether a quoted amount is gross before deductions or net after deductions and should keep payslips and payment records. A job can end through resignation, an agreed separation, expiry of a valid fixed term, retirement, or dismissal. The reason, required procedure, notice arrangements, documents, and final payments depend on the employment situation. Informal work is important in Morocco but often provides weaker proof of earnings and fewer practical protections. Moving toward written terms, regular payment records, and proper declaration can reduce risk for both worker and employer.
