Languages in Myanmar

The Ministry of Education, the Department of Basic Education, the Department of Myanmar Nationalities' Languages, the Department of Higher Education, universities and regional or state authorities share responsibility for language education in Myanmar. State basic education uses Myanmar as its functional foundation and introduces English from primary school. Ethnic-language teaching and bilingual support can accompany Myanmar in relevant regions, but availability differs by locality, school capacity, teachers, conflict, disasters and internet access. Current British Council prices listed in the research are USD 210 for computer Academic or General, USD 190 for Online Academic, USD 235 for UKVI and USD 160 for Life Skills. Computer IELTS results typically take one to five days, while course and examination dates can change. Cambridge examinations are available in Yangon and Mandalay, with digital delivery currently documented in Yangon. The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test, or JLPT, is offered in Yangon and Mandalay and is held regularly, reportedly twice a year. Myanmar national examinations and assessments are handled by the Department of Myanmar Examinations. English curriculum details differ by grade, including a newer Grade 10 curriculum and an older Grade 11 curriculum, so the applicable school year matters.
