Civil law in Nepal

Civil law in Nepal governs private legal relationships between individuals and organizations, including contracts, property, family matters, inheritance, liability, court proceedings and enforcement. The main codified framework is the Muluki Civil Code 2074, also called the National Civil Code 2017, supported by the Muluki Civil Procedure Code 2074, or National Civil Procedure Code 2017; both took effect on 2075-05-01. The Constitution is the highest legal norm, and a special statute prevails over the general code where it applies.
