Nicaragua does not have one single apprenticeship contract equivalent to the German dual system. It has a range of formal, non-formal and informal pathways whose duration, contract status and workplace component depend on the career and training center. Formal options include Bachillerato Técnico, which normally begins after ninth grade and combines general subjects with technical modules over about three years. It awards both a secondary-school diploma and a technical title. Técnico General programs usually require ninth grade and prepare learners for practical occupational tasks; many last about one to three years depending on the career and schedule. Técnico Especialista programs usually require a secondary-school diploma and prepare learners for more complex technical work, coordination or supervision. Técnico Superior is legally provided for, but the current offer must be checked at the responsible center.
Apprenticeship in Nicaragua
Nicaragua's vocational education system, known as Educación Técnica y Formación Profesional (ETFP), prepares people for specific occupations through formal programs, short courses and workplace-based learning. INATEC is the national authority and provides or oversees most technical training. Programs may lead to titles such as Técnico General, Técnico Especialista, Bachillerato Técnico or Técnico Superior, while shorter courses and competence assessments lead to certificates.
