Entry generally requires an authorized border post, a passport or accepted identity document valid for at least six months, and a visa when the nationality and passport require one. Immigration authorities may also request proof of sufficient funds and onward or return travel. Under Disposición 002-2026, effective 16 February 2026, 69 nationalities are listed for Libre Visado and 128 for Visa Consultada category C. The category C list includes ordinary passports from countries such as China, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela, subject to listed exceptions. A consulted visa requires a decision by the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería and issuance through a Nicaraguan consulate. Its validity is generally 30 days, with a possible stay of up to 90 days; transit is limited to five days. The current list should be checked directly with the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería or the Ministerio del Interior before travel because nationality, passport type and administrative updates can change the applicable requirement.
