Immigration law in Oman is based on the purpose of travel and the legal status granted to the person. The term sponsor, often linked to the Arabic concept of kafala, may describe the employer or person responsible for supporting a residence process. The practical effect depends on the visa category and current rules, so a sponsor cannot simply be assumed to have unlimited control. Residents normally need valid identity and residence documentation and must follow the conditions attached to their permission. Changes of employer, address, family status, job, or travel plan can require approval, notification, or a new document. Entry or residence problems can arise from an expired document, an incorrect visa purpose, an overstay, missing approval, or a mismatch between the person’s activity and the permission. Immigration authorities may refuse entry, impose administrative measures, or refer serious matters for further action. People should keep their passport, visa details, resident card, work permit information, and sponsor records consistent and accessible. They should also confirm any renewal, transfer, cancellation, or exit requirement before relying on an informal promise.
