Arrival in Pakistan

Before travelling to Pakistan, keep your passport, visa or entry permission, tickets, address, and important contact details together. Carry paper copies and keep secure digital copies as well. At an airport or land crossing, immigration checks your identity and permission to enter. Answer clearly, follow instructions, and check that any entry stamp or record matches your stay. Customs controls what enters the country. Declare items when required, keep medicines in their original packaging, and avoid carrying restricted goods without checking the applicable rules. Use an arranged pickup, a trusted taxi, or another known transport option for the first journey. Keep your bags close, agree the destination clearly, and save the address in writing. Pakistan uses the Pakistani rupee, and cash is still useful in many everyday situations. Exchange money through lawful channels, keep small notes for simple purchases, and protect your wallet and documents. Urdu is widely understood, while English is common in formal settings and many cities. Learn a few polite Urdu words, use a translation aid if needed, and ask a local contact to help with unfamiliar instructions. The first days are for learning the area, getting a local phone connection if needed, finding food and water that suit you, and checking how to reach help. Move slowly until you understand local traffic, customs, and distances. Pakistan is diverse, so customs, clothing expectations, transport, and languages can differ between provinces and cities. Observe the people around you, dress respectfully, and ask before photographing people or sensitive places.
