Russian higher education includes universities, academies, institutes, and specialised educational organisations. Their programmes can focus on science, engineering, medicine, teaching, economics, law, arts, or other fields. A бакалавриат is a broad higher-education degree route. A специалитет is a longer, professionally focused route that remains important in several fields. A магистратура is an advanced programme after a first higher-education qualification. Аспирантура is a postgraduate research route. It is intended for deeper academic work and preparation for research or teaching, although graduates may also use advanced study in professional careers. Students usually choose a field, institution, programme, and form of study. Full-time study is common, while part-time, evening, and distance formats may exist depending on the institution. Admission for many school graduates is based on ЕГЭ results. Some applicants, transfer students, graduates with previous qualifications, or applicants to creative fields may face additional or internal examinations. A budgetное место is a publicly funded study place awarded through competition. Paid education is another route, and the contract, workload, recognition, and total cost should be examined carefully. University study combines lectures, seminars, practical classes, independent work, examinations, and sometimes internships. The balance differs greatly between subjects and institutions. A diploma alone does not guarantee employment. Employers may also look for practical skills, Russian-language ability, portfolios, work experience, professional conduct, and the recognition required for a particular occupation. Before applying, compare the programme curriculum, admission rules, teaching language, practical opportunities, academic support, and likely career paths. This helps separate a suitable programme from a famous name that does not match your goals.
