Politics in Rwanda

Politics in Rwanda covers the institutions that exercise public authority and the elections through which citizens choose representatives. The constitutional system separates executive, legislative and judicial powers, while elected offices are filled through national and local voting procedures. State institutions and elections are distinct but connected parts of public decision-making.

Elections

Elections in Rwanda choose the President, members of the Chamber of Deputies, senators and local representatives through direct votes or electoral colleges. The National Electoral Commission (NEC) organizes national and local elections, maintains the voter register, accredits observers and publishes official results. Voting access, candidate eligibility, ballot procedures and complaint deadlines depend on the office being contested.
