Disasters in Samoa

Samoa faces major disaster risks from tropical cyclones, severe weather, floods, landslides, drought, coastal inundation, storm surges, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic activity. The Disaster and Emergency Management Act 2007 (DEMA) establishes the national framework, while the Disaster Management Office (DMO) coordinates planning, risk reduction and emergency operations. The Samoa Meteorology Division issues official weather, climate and geophysical warnings through sirens, radio, telecommunications, village councils and other local channels.
