Continuing education means learning after initial schooling or formal study. In Singapore, it supports career development, job changes, workplace performance, and personal growth. SkillsFuture is Singapore's national approach to lifelong learning and skills development. It encourages individuals, employers, and training providers to keep building relevant capabilities. Continuing Education and Training, often called CET, includes courses and programmes for adults. Learning may be delivered in classrooms, workshops, online sessions, workplaces, or blended formats. The Workforce Skills Qualifications framework, commonly called WSQ, focuses on skills and competence for work. A WSQ course may assess practical performance, knowledge, or both, depending on the skill area. Employers may provide internal training, mentoring, structured job rotations, or support for external courses. The most useful option is often the one connected to a real work task and a clear performance goal. Adults can study for upskilling, which deepens skills in the current field, or reskilling, which prepares them for a different role. Some people combine short courses, workplace practice, and larger qualifications over time. Good course selection requires more than a course title. Learners should examine the learning outcomes, entry level, assessment, workload, delivery method, recognition, and connection to their intended use. Continuing education has limits. A certificate cannot guarantee a job or promotion, and learning takes time, effort, and practice. Skills become valuable when the learner can use them reliably in a real situation.
